Lenovo Thinkpad S531 Ultrabook Powered by Intel Ivy Bridge CPU
Lenovo launched a new 15.6-inch Ultrabook – the Lenovo Thinkpad S531 Ultrabook. But it is not powered by the latest Intel Haswell processor, instead, Lenovo decided to power it with a 3rd generation Intel Ivy Bridge processor. Sounds disappointing? Not quite, since it has some other great features to compensate for not using the latest Intel processor.
UPDATE: The ThinkPad S531 Ultrabook is now available. Check out where you can buy it below.
The Lenovo Thinkpad S531 Ultrabook features an ultra-thin bezel and beveled edges. It has a 15.6-inch Full HD display that features an Antiglare protection. Even though Lenovo said that it is optimized for the Windows 8 operating system, it doesn’t have a touch display. But you can flip the display at a 180-degree angle.
Its body is made out of a combination of aluminum and magnesium alloy, giving it a starting weight of 2.29Kg only. Ports are colored Black and it has a sandblast finish to give a clean and professional-looking design. It comes in Silver and Gunmetal variant.
The Lenovo Thinkpad S531 has a 6-row backlit keyboard which is further enhanced for Windows 8. It also comes with a low-light sensitive 720p HD webcam with wide-angle viewing and face-tracking, great for web conferencing, and optimized for VOIP communications.
It has basic connectivity features such as Lenovo OneLink technology, 2 USB 3.0 (1 always-on), RJ45 Ethernet, 4-in-1 card reader, HDMI, combo mic/headphone jacks. Lenovo claims that the Ultrabook can last up to 9 hours on a standard 4-cell 62.8W battery.
Aside from the basic ports, the Lenovo Thinkpad S531 is built with an integrated fingerprint reader for convenient access and secure login with one swipe. Its audio is taken care of by Dolby Home Theater and JBL Built-in Speakers giving you a crisp and clear surround sound experience.
Under its hood, the Lenovo Thinkpad S531 is powered by a 3rd generation Intel Ivy Bridge processor. It might seem outdated compared to the latest 4th generation Haswell processor with better-integrated graphics, but it can still provide a fast and smooth user experience. The CPU is paired with a 10GB of memory, which is a combination of 2GB soldered + 8GB in the slot, and a 500GB of storage.
The detailed specifications of the ThinkPad S531 will be posted as soon as it hit the shelves this coming July.
