Asus Zenbook Prime Touch UX31A-BHI5T Radiant Black: Specs, Price and Where to Buy

Asus Zenbook Prime Touch UX31A-BHI5T

The Asus Zenbook Prime Touch UX31A-BHI5T Ultrabook features a nice aluminum brushed radiant black finish all over its body. It’s very portable, slim and light, and is powered by an Intel Core i5-3317U Ivy Bridge processor, with a 128GB Solid State Drive for its storage. Check out its features, reviews, price, and where you can buy below.

If you are looking for an ultra-portable and easy to carry Windows Ultrabook that would rival Apple’s MacBook Air, then you definitely need to consider the Asus UX31A-BHI5T Zenbook Prime Touch. It is powered by a 3rd generation Intel Core i5-3317U processor clocked at 1.7GHz and has 3MB L3 cache. The processor is paired with a 4GB DDR3 clocked at 1600MHz.

The Asus Zenbook Prime Touch UX31A-BHI5T doesn’t have a discrete graphics processor, as most Ultrabooks this thin do. But it has an integrated Intel HD 4000 that takes care of the graphics processing. It has a beautiful 13.3-inch Full HD IPS (In-Plane Switching) multi-touch display with a resolution of 1920×1080, perfect for viewing HD media. You can also wirelessly transmit media to another network display via the Intel Wireless Display technology. But it requires a NetGear Push2TV adapter which unfortunately is not included in the package.

The Asus Zenbook Prime Touch UX31A-BHI5T has only 128GB SSD SATA 6Gbps storage. It’s not that much, but read and writes speeds are very fast, even if you compare it to a WD Scorpio Black 7200 RPM drive. Although this Ultrabook features Bang & Olufsen ICEpower for its speakers, don’t expect too much from it. Since they are very small Ultrabooks don’t produce a very good sound at all. Instead if you want to enjoy great sound I would suggest you plug in your headphone or earphone instead.

Because of super portability and super slim dimension, the Asus UX31A-BHI5T has limited ports. It has only 2x USB 3.0 ports, a micro HDMI, mini VGA port, SD Card Reader, and a combo audio jack. Oh, let’s not forget the 720p HD web camera. Other than that you will have to connect the Zenbook Prime Touch via its built-in Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 208.11n.

Asus Zenbook Prime Touch UX31A-BHI5T Review

Below are two video reviews of the Asus Zenbook Prime Touch UX31A-BHI5T courtesy of MobileTechReview and AJ Williams.

The video below focuses more on the overall details of the UX31A-BHI5T and some performance tests. It’s a 20-minute long video but its detailed.

The video review below done by AJ Williams focuses more on the Windows 8 aspect and touch capabilities as well as the desktop performance of the UX31A-BHI5T.

Just an advice, if you don’t like or don’t want to use the new Windows 8 Metro style user interface, then you don’t have to. I have been using Windows 8 for quite some time now and I rarely use the metro style. Instead I use Windows 8 just like how I use Windows 7. If you want the good old Start button back, just install Classic Shell. Although, I do sometimes enjoy the touch capabilities that it offers when I’m using the Asus ViviBook.

Price and Where to Buy

The Asus Zenbook Prime Touch UX31A-BHI5T is a great Ultrabook especially if you are looking for an all-black Ultrabook with a smooth aluminum brushed finish. It’s very portable and easy to carry around. It’s not really geared for gaming, but if you intend to use it for work, business, and school projects, then you definitely need to consider the Asus UX31A-BHI5T.
