When it comes to processing power the Asus G750JX-TB71 and Alienware ALW17-3744sLV are just the same since they are powered by the same Intel Core i7 Quad-Core Haswell processor. The only difference is, the Core i7-4700MQ in the Alienware ALW17 is removable and upgradeable, while in the Asus it’s not upgradable.
But if you noticed the Asus G750JX has more memory, and graphics is powered by a faster discrete graphics card. Overall, this makes the Asus G750JX-TB71 not only faster compared to the Alienware ALW17-3744sLV, but it will produce higher frames per second while on gaming as well.
I don’t understand why Dell only used an HD+ 1600×900 resolution for this model. If you want a 1080 version it will entail additional cost. A full HD 1920×1080 is pretty much the standard resolution in most gaming laptops and Ultrabooks nowadays. Well, +1 for the Asus G750 for this round.
Despite the hardware advantage of the Asus G750JX-TB71 over the Alienware ALW17-3744sLV, the ALW17 has its plus points as well. For one, the LED highlights on the ALW17 looks cool. If you look at both gaming laptops, the ALW17 looks bigger and bulkier, but specs will tell you that the Asus G750 is the slightly bigger and heavier one. The only reason why the Asus G750 looks smaller or slimmer than the ALW17 is because of its design inspired by a Stealth Fighter.
The Optical Drive mechanism on the Alienware ALW17 is cool as well because you only need to insert the disc on the slot located on the side of the ALW17. There’s no popup tray anymore. The only advantage for the specific model compared in this article is that the G750JX-TB71 comes with a Blu-Ray drive, while the ALW17-3744sLV comes with only a DVD-RW.
If I were to choose from the two, specs and price-wise I would go for the Asus G750JX-TB71. But if I were to consider the eye-candy and looks, I would go for the Alienware ALW17. Of course, the Alienware lineup could match the gaming laptops that the Asus G750 lineup has to offer. Except that, generally, the Alienware gaming laptops come with a higher price tag.
I inserted video reviews of the Asus G750JX and Alienware ALW17 as well as ALW18 below for you to know the other features that these gaming laptops have to offer, and for your convenience as well. Video credits go to their respective owners.
