Acer has recently announced the first-ever touchscreen Chromebook – the Acer Chromebook C720P. With a touch screen display, you can have a much better Chrome experience, just like using a tablet. Touch screen notebooks and Ultrabooks are very popular nowadays, so I think it would also be a great idea to incorporate it with the value for money mobile devices like the Chromebook. The Chromebook C720P has the same design and chassis as its non-touch brothers. But there are changes under the hood, aside from the touch display.
The new Acer Chromebook C720P features a nice 11.6-inch ComfyView HD display at a resolution of 1366×768 with Anti-Glare features. Despite not having a full HD display, also to keep the cost at minimal, the texts, images, and videos look crisp and clear. The multi-touch display allows customers to use gestures such as swipe, tap, and pinch to zoom to interact in a natural way with the Chromebook so they can better enjoy educational apps, browse websites, scroll through Google Docs, play games and more.
Under the hood, the Acer Chromebook C720P is powered by an Intel Haswell processor, specifically the Intel Celeron 2955U processor clocked at 1.4GHz, the same processor used by the non-touch C720 Chromebooks. It comes with only 2GB of RAM just like the cheaper $199.00 C720 Chromebook. But it comes with a larger storage capacity of 32GB via a Solid State Drive or SSD. Thanks to the low powered Haswell processor, you can use the C720P for up to 7.5 hours depending on your use and the apps you run. Video processing is handled by an Integrated Intel HD Graphics with dedicated 128MB memory.
The Acer Chromebook C720P also has connectivity options, both wired and wireless. For wireless connectivity, it has the Acer InviLinkTM NplifyTM 802.11a/b/g/n wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.0. For wired options, this device has a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, and an HDMI port. There’s also an HD Webcam and an SD card reader slot.
