A year ago Ultrabooks were not as popular as they are today, why? Because even though they offer ultra-portability and higher performance, their prices were just too high. But now, Ultrabooks like the Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 has become one of the bestselling Intel Haswell Ultrabooks currently available on the market. Why?

Because it offers ultra-portability, high performance, and long battery life thanks to the Intel Haswell processor and Solid State Drives, and at the same time it has an attractive price that many would find affordable and reasonable. If you are planning to buy an Ultrabook this year, should you get the Acer Aspire S7? Please continue reading below and find out if this Ultrabook is the one for you.

If you are going to ask me how I choose the right Ultrabook or laptop or any gadget for me, I usually ask myself only two things. “Does this Ultrabook has the features and specifications that meet my needs and make me become more productive?” And “Does the price of this Ultrabook fit my budget?” Now let’s check if this particular model, Acer Aspire S7-392-9890, would answer both of my questions.

Features and Specifications

The Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 features a nice and ultra-slim design, with a thickness of only 0.51-inches at its thickest point and weighs only 2.9 lbs, meaning it can be easily carried around. It also features a nice 13.3-inch Full HD CineCrystal LED display with a resolution of 1920×1080. This would make things look better compared to the 1366×768 resolution that most entry-level and mid-range laptops have. The display is also a 10-point touch display so that you take fully take advantage of the touch features of Windows 8.

Personally I’m not really excited about the aluminum body and scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 2 that the Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 has (but it is a plus factor). What I am really excited about is what this Ultrabook has under its hood. This particular model is powered by the latest 4th generation Intel Core i7-4500U Haswell processor. Not only does it provide more processing power compared to its 3rd generation Ivy Bridge predecessors, the new Haswell processors are also power-efficient and consumes lesser power, thus providing more battery life and more hours of usage for you.

It doesn’t have a discrete graphics processor, but the Intel Core i7-4500U comes with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400 processor with 128MB of dedicated memory. It’s not really for gaming, but you can play light to some of the mid-level games out there. The CPU is paired with an 8GB of DDR3 memory just enough for a 64-bit operating system.

Another cool feature about the Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 is that is has a 256GB SSD as its storage drive in RAID 0 configuration. An SSD alone is very fast when compared to a hard drive. Putting two 128GB SSD in RAID 0 will result in a much faster read/write speeds. This also helps in the fast resume and fast boot of the system.

How about connectivity features? Even though this is an Ultrabook, it is still built with enough connectivity options that most of us would need. It has two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port with HDCP support, and a digital media card reader. When it comes to wireless connectivity, the Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 is built with an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 7260 WiFi card, featuring 802.11 a/b/g/n with Acer Nplify and MIMO technology. It has Bluetooth 4.0+HS and can stream videos wirelessly via Intel Wireless Display.

When it comes to battery life, the Acer Aspire S7-392 can provide up to 7 hours of battery life, via its 4-cell Lithium Polymer (6280 mAh) battery. But I know actual usage might only reach around 5 hours more or less since I tend to run multiple applications and play music at the same time.

The Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 pretty much answered my first question and it has enough features and specifications that I need. Now how about its price?

Price and Where to Buy

The Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 comes with a much cheaper price tag compared to its competitors. This particular model, Aspire S7-392-9890, is powered with the Intel Core i7 processor, comes with 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of SSD storage. Currently it is priced at $1,239.99 USD and it’s available here.

Compared it with its competitors like the Sony VAIO Pro 13 and Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus, it has a more affordable price tag. Thus, when it comes to price, this one is the winner.

Meanwhile the Aspire S7-392-6484, which is the Core i5 version with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD, is currently priced at $1,139 USD, see the best price here. Although not as fast as the Core i7 model, it’s still a good deal if you are looking for a cheaper alternative.

The Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 is built with exciting features and powerful specifications paired it with an attractive and more affordable price tag no wonder why this Ultrabook became one of the bestselling Ultrabooks this year.
