Team M132 Smart Dual Drive USB OTG ReviewPublished on June 25th, 2014 | by Peter Paul
Dual USB OTG Drives have become popular nowadays thanks to the ever growing Android smartphone industry. Many people who own an Android smartphone and a PC (whether Laptop or Desktop) would prefer to get a Dual USB OTG instead of a typical USB drive. Dual USB Drives have both a standard USB 3.0 ports and a micro USB port. This makes it a lot easier for user to transfer their files from their computer to their smartphones (and vice versa) easily. Today, let’s take a look at Team Group’s dual drive – the Team M132 Smart Dual Drive USB OTG. Please continue reading my Team M132 Smart Dual Drive review below.
Team M132 Smart Dual Drive USB OTG Review
The Team M132 Smart Dual Drive USB OTG features an all-aluminum alloy casing with a very compact size. It only measures 37.4mm x 12.3mm x 4.6mm. Some might find it very small, while for others the size is just right. It is hot-swappable and supports plug and play. It has one standard USB 3.0 port to connect with a laptop or desktop PC, and at the other end is a micro USB for smartphones with OTG support. It’s also backwards compatible with USB 2.0; however connecting the drive to older versions of USB port may affect its performance.
It comes in three different capacities, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. The larger capacities have a faster write speed compared to the 16GB capacity. I’ll talk more about its features as we take a closer look at this dual USB OTG drive below.

A Closer Look at Team M132
The Team M132 comes in a nice packaging. To get the M132 from its packaging, simply cut the line indicated at the top portion.
Inside the box, you get the Team M132 itself, with a cap cover for the micro USB port, and a string with an earphone plug. The string can be attached directly to the hole located in the body of the M132, near the micro USB port. Meanwhile, the earphone plug can be inserted on the phone’s earphone socket for additional support. However, I find this not really useful in most cases, because not all smartphones have the earphone plug placed right beside the micro USB port, like Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
The USB 3.0 port is located at the other end of the M132. It doesn’t have any cover and you just plug it in directly to a USB port. According to Team, the M132 is water proof. However I would advise that in case the drive did get wet, make sure that either ports are completely dry before plugging in to your computer or smartphone. You also can’t connect the drive to a computer and a smartphone simultaneously.
Although the Team M132 Smart Dual Drive is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, as much as possible connect it in a USB 3.0 port if your PC or laptop has one. USB 3.0 offers faster Read/Write speed compared to a USB 2.0 port.
Team sent me a 16GB capacity, and the amount of usable capacity is 14.43GB. Whenever you buy a storage drive, don’t expect to get the full amount of capacity as indicated in the label.
Testing and Results
In testing the Team M132 Smart Dual Drive USB OTG 16GB, I used my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and my desktop PC (since my laptop is currently out of service). I used ATTO Disk Benchmark, Crystal DiskMark and Anvil’s Storage Utilities to test the performance of the dual USB OTG drive. The drive is connected to a USB 3.0 port during the test. Below are the results of the test.
According to its specifications, the 16GB has a maximum read speed of 85MB/s. However during our test, the M132 performed a little bit faster around 110MB/s to 115MB/s. Its expected write speed based on the specs sheet is 15MB/s maximum. In my test, the drive got around 9MB/s to 11MB/s which are not far from the expected speed. The 32GB and 64GB capacity have a slightly higher write speed or 20MB/s max based on their specs. Unfortunately I don’t have one to test its performance.
Team M132 Smart Dual Drive Review: Conclusion
As of today, the Team M132 Smart Dual Drive USB OTG 16GB capacity is priced at $11.99, while the 32GB and 64GB are priced at $18.99 and $36.99 respectively. These prices are from NewEgg and of course are subject to change. Other retailers I saw are selling the drives at around $5-$10 higher.
The Team M132 Smart Dual Drive USB OTG is a useful device specially if you have both a smartphone and a PC. You can also access your files from the drive itself while it is attached to your smartphone. What I like about this drive is that it has an aluminum body and its water proof. It has a really simple and plain design. It’s not the fastest USB Dual drive in the market, but it is relatively cheaper and more affordable compared to the competition. I don’t find any real cons about this product since it performed well as expected. The only problem that I see is that the drive is somewhat really small for me. It’s a personal preference and some of you might want a small USD drive. But I tend to loose small things easily. Fortunately, there is a hole where you can attach it to a string or holder.
In the end, I find the Team M132 to be a highly recommendable product thanks to its life time warranty and affordable price.
