MSI GT80 Titan SLI Gaming Laptop with Mechanical Keyboard Now AvailablePublished on January 20th, 2015 | by Peter Paul
MSI recently released their latest high performance gaming laptop and the world’s first gaming laptop built with a mechanical keyboard – the MSI GT80 Titan SLI. From the name alone, “GT80 Titan SLI”, you’ll have an idea that this gaming laptop is powered by two NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards, namely GTX 980M discrete graphics processor in SLI for the ultimate gaming experience. The GT80 Titan SLI is actually the answer to my question a few months ago, “is there a laptop with a mechanical keyboard?”. It features a SteelSeries mechanical Cherry MX Brown switch with Red backlights. Aside from the powerful graphics processor, it’s also powered with the latest Intel Core i7 quad core Haswell processor, up to 24GB of DDR3L memory, lots of storage options both hard drive and solid state drive and many more features that is geared towards mobile gamers. Check out the rest of its features, specifications, prices and where to buy below. I’ve also added some videos regarding the MSI GT80 Titan SLI below.
MSI GT80 Titan SLI Features
The MSI GT80 Titan SLI is the world’s first gaming laptop built with a mechanical keyboard featuring Cherry MX Brown switches. Mechanical keyboards are thicker so there are some adjustments that were implemented to accommodate the keyboard. Unlike most gaming laptops where the keyboard is usually near the screen, this time it’s farther from the screen and there is a space between the keyboard and the display. That space houses all the components, like motherboard, GPU, CPU, memory and etc of this gaming laptop. The keyboard section is just dedicated for the keyboard alone, along with a unique track pad.
Under the hood, the MSI GT80 Titan SLI is powered by the latest 4th gen Intel Core i7 quad core Haswell processor paired with, not one, but two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M with dedicated 8GB of VRAM in SLI mode. Just imagine the performance potential in this gaming laptop. The CPU and GPU are paired with up to 24GB of DDR3L memory, although I’m not really sure if you can expand it further to 32GB.
Like most of MSI’s gaming laptop, the MSI GT80 Titan SLI has lots of storage options. It’s build with a 1TB 7200 RPM hard drive and you can install several M.2 SATA SSDs and configure it with Super RAID 3 to achieve a really fast read/write speed. Both the models GT80 Titan SLI-001 and GT80 Titan SLI-009 comes with a 1TB hard drive + two 128GB SSD in RAID 0 configuration. “Super RAID 3” is actually MSI’s marketing term for this feature.
This gaming laptop features a larger 18.4-inch display with a 1920×1080 Full HD resolution, with anti-glare coating. Not sure why MSI didn’t opt for a 4K display, since two GTX 980M is already capable of driving 4K resolution. But two GTX 980M in a 1080p setting is somewhat overkill for some games specially that doesn’t require a really high end graphics card. Nevertheless, thanks to the high performance graphics processing power, the MSI GT80 Titan SLI supports Matrix display up to 4 display max to expand the vision for extreme gaming experience or multi tasks.
The MSI GT80 Titan SLI doesn’t come short when it comes to connectivity options. It features Killer E2200 Game Networking, Killer N1525 Wireless-AC, Bluetooth, Card reader, 5x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI 1.4 port, 2x mini DisplayPorts, mic, headphone and SPDIF. It even got a Blu-ray disc burner. I don’t think Asus has this kind of gaming machine (as of todate). So far Asus’ flagship gaming laptop is the ASUS ROG G751JY-DH72X. It’s cheaper, but I think the MSI GT80 Titan SLI wins when it comes to features and performance.
Sometimes or most of the times it’s hard to imagine and appreciate a gaming laptop just by reading the white paper. So there are videos below regarding the MSI GT80 SLI gaming laptop for your reference. The videos will show you more feature including some benchmarks of the GT80 Titan.
