Because the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p is powered by the latest 4th generation Intel Core i7 Quad Core processor paired with a dual NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M discrete graphics card in SLI mode (varies in model). You read that right folks, it has two GPUs in SLI configuration, and this laptop won’t cost you that much compared to other gaming laptops out there. Check out its specs, features, price and where to buy below.
Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p Features and Specifications
The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p is a feature rich laptop that is built for those who are looking for a value for money high performance laptop capable of handling resource-demanding applications, multi-media needs and playing modern day games. Under its hood, the IdeaPad Y510p is powered by the latest 4th generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Quad Core Haswell Processor with 6MB Cache, clocked at 2.4GHZ with max Turbo frequency of 3.4GHz.
The processor has a built-in Intel HD Graphics 4600 integrated graphics processor, but a built-in integrated GPU alone is not enough. That is why the IdeaPad Y510p is built with two NDIVIA GeForce GT 750M graphics card in SLI mode each with a dedicated 2GB DDR5 VRAM, making it capable of running graphics intensive applications and games. The first graphics card is built-in the laptop, while the other one is available via the laptop’s “Ultrabay”. With the Ultrabay, you can either have a dual GeForce GT 750M in SLI mode, or a BluRay drive, or increase your storage space, or add an additional cooling fan. Just a reminder, it varies in the model number. There are Y510p that doesn’t have a dual GPU or a BluRay drive.
The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p has a generous amount of memory, 16GB DDR3 to be exact and a huge 1TB hard drive paired with a 24GB SSD for cache, making it load faster compared to laptops without an SSD cache. There is a cheaper configuration of this laptop but it has only 8GB of RAM and no 24GB SSD. Although the other model is cheaper, I would recommend that you get the 16GB RAM with 24GB SSD Cache if your budget allows it, since you will get better performance with this than the other model.
The powerful combination of two graphics card is paired with a great 15.6-inch Full HD display at 1920×1080 resolution with Anti-glare feature, a feature most mobile gamers and laptop users are looking for. The display is paired with premium JBL full impact surround sound speakers with Dolby Home Theater v4 audio technology, providing a (definitely) better audio experience than standard stereo speakers.
You can also type comfortably in the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p even for a long period of time thanks to the Cool-Touch metal design with an Intelligent Touchpad. The keys in the keyboard are backlit and feature an AccuType design, where keys are slightly curved improving comfort and accuracy during typing sessions.
There are also lots of connectivity options found in the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p. This laptop is built with 2x USB 3.0 ports, a USB 2.0 port, headphone and mic, HDMI port, VGA port, 6-in1 card reader (SD, SDHC, SDXC, MMC, MS, MS-Pro), and a 1GB LAN port. For your wireless networking needs, the IdeaPad Y510p is built with Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230 for WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. Oh, let’s not forget the 720P HD web camera.
This laptop is 1.41-inch thick with a dimension of 15.23×10.19 inches, and weighs 5.95 lbs. Battery life can last up to 5 hours depending on your usage. But if you’re going to use this for gaming, it will only last for a couple of hours just like any other gaming laptop out there.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M SLI Benchmarks
Just how fast is the GeForce GT 750M in SLI mode? Usually GT series are not that fast compared to their big brothers, the GTX series. However when two GT 750M are combined in an SLI mode, you would be surprise that it would even outperform a (or on par) GeForce GTX 765M. Check out the comparison table below.
Price and Where to Buy
The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p price varies depending on the model. The recommended model that comes with a 16GB of RAM, 24GB SSD Cache, Two GeForce GT 750M for SLI (one built-in and one in Ultrabay), a BluRay Read/Write in UltraBay, and etc. is around $1,299USD to $1,399 more or less, since the price vary from one seller to another.
Meanwhile the cheaper version that has only 8GB or RAM, no SSD, No BluRay, but still with dual GeForce GT 750M (one in UltraBay), is just around $999 more or less.
Both models come with a 1 year Lenovo warranty. Just a suggestion, if you are going for the without 24GB SSD Cache, I would suggest you buy a 7200RPM drive or a full pledge Solid State Drive for your primary storage. Why? Read my article here. But if you are buying the model with the 24GB SSD cache, you may or may not upgrade to a better storage drive.
