asus zenbook ux301la-dh51t review

The Asus Zenbook UX301LA is one of the most beautiful and sleek looking Haswell Ultrabook that is currently available. The Gorilla Glass 3 protection on its lid protects the aluminum lid from scratches at the same time keeps its pristine-looking condition. It’s not the slimmest and lightest Ultrabook, but it is still very slim. The Asus UX301LA is not only about beauty and craftsmanship, but it is also about speed and performance. Under the hood of the Asus Zenbook UX301LA-DH51T is the latest Intel Core i5-4200U Haswell processor with Two cores and Four threads, with clock speeds from 1.6GHz to 2.60Ghz. It doesn’t have a discrete graphics processor but the Haswell processor comes with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400 graphics processor. It’s not really for gaming but can handle some modern day games.

The Asus Zenbook UX301LA features a 13.3-inch WQHD IPS Touch display with a resolution of 2560×1440, that resolution is even better than the full HD 1920×1080 found on most laptops and ultrabooks nowadays. There are only few Ultrabooks with this high resolution, others come with an even higher QHD+ or 3200×1800 resolution. Still the display on the Asus Zenbook UX301LA-DH51T is superb compared to most laptops or notebooks out there.

There is an on board 8GB of DDR3L memory in the Asus Zenbook UX301LA-DH51T, and one of the things I like about in an Ultrabooks is that they use Solid State Drives for storage instead of a conventional 5400RPM or 7200RPM hard drive. If you are not familiar with solid state drives or SSDs, they are non-mechanical storage device that uses NAND Flash instead of a spinning disk/platter. It is somewhat similar to SD cards, USB flash drive, or memory. They are way faster, even compared to the fastest hard drive on the planet. Not only that, Asus used two 128GB SSDs in RAID 0 mode for a total of 256GB storage. A RAID 0 configuration is faster compared to a single 256GB of SSD.

By the way, speaking of storage, the 256GB is not the actual user capacity or free capacity. Some people think that when you buy a 500GB hard drive, you get 500GB of actual user capacity. That’s not true at all. You will not get the maximum formatted capacity because the system has to consume a certain amount for the file allocation table, plus the operating system and program files. Same goes with smartphones and tablets, you won’t get the full 16GB or 32GB.

The rest of the specifications and features are indicated below. And for your convenience I have attached video review of the Asus UX301LA as well.
